One of the most important details that I always work out with a bride during their hair and makeup preview is how much time we will need to get them ready. The perfect bridal look is something most girls dream about from childhood until the day they say “I do,” so as a hair and makeup artist, it is my goal to make sure we schedule enough time to achieve the bride’s dream look. For most of my weddings, I like to work on members of the bridal party’s hair and makeup first in order to give the bride time to relax and hang out with her bridesmaids. Then, once it’s the brides turn to get in my chair, I make sure that we have a set game plan in order to maximize the amount of time scheduled.
I generally start with makeup first because I feel that there’s just something about having your face done while styling hair that makes everything look much more put together. If a bride’s makeup is very natural, I usually allow around 30 minutes and for a more glam makeup look, I will allow about 45 minutes. A bride’s hairstyle can take me anywhere from 20 minutes for an half-up style to 45 minutes for an up do. As a rule of thumb, the bride is always one of the last people I style on the wedding day in order to make sure that she feels fresh and pampered just before she steps into her wedding gown. One of my highest priorities as a hair and makeup artist is to make sure I honor the bride’s timeline in order to create a fun and stress-free day!
