Say it with me now, “You will still be married at the end of the day.”
I remember telling myself those words over and over on my wedding day, and to countless other brides since. You see, I get it. My wedding day was not the perfect day I always imagined (oh yeah, I said it). My husband has been a stickler for keeping us on a strict budget from the beginning, and to be honest, neither of our families were in the position to spend tens of thousands of dollars on our wedding. Although that was our situation, I was still determined to have the perfect Pinterest wedding. The weeks leading up to my wedding were filled with DIY decor projects and back-and-forth emails with numerous vendors. When the wedding day finally arrived, my bridal party spent the morning ironing table cloths, hand lettering chalk boards, and there was even a last-minute trip to Home Depot where my husband and his groomsmen built an 8-foot wooden cross for the ceremony. Yikes.
To say the least, I was a hot mess. It wasn’t until my best friend and mentor in the hair and makeup industry, Jessica, sat me in a chair and started on my makeup that I finally caught my breath. As her makeup brushes passed over my face, I remember a sense of excitement growing in my heart. As I was getting ready, I felt more and more like a bride. I will never forget the moment of looking into the mirror after she finished my hair and makeup. This was it, I was finally the bride that I had been envisioning since I was a little girl. I felt beautiful and confident, and the best part was that my hair and makeup was the one part of the day that I didn’t have to worry about because I was completely confident in my artist’s skill.
That is exactly how I want my brides to feel on their wedding day. Whether the day is peaceful or chaotic, I want my brides to know that when it comes to their hair and makeup, I’ve got this and they can be confident that I have listened to their needs and will honor their time. You cannot control the weather or if your groomsmen remembered to pack a shirt or shoes (speaking from person experience over here), but you can choose to relax and trust that I’m a professional who wants nothing more than to make the little girl you used to be proud- to transform you into the bride you’ve always envisioned.
